Westlake whisked back into the state tournament by claiming second at the Region 2-5A Championships Thursday in Waco.
Sierra Sims took second individually to pace the Chaparrals, which beat Allen in a playoff to earn second place. Lake Travis took first place at regionals, and all three teams advance to the state tournament April 29-30 at the Morris Williams Golf Course.
Sims was in a neck-and-neck race with familiar foe Maddie Szeryk of Allen, who ended up taking first by two strokes, 147 to Sims’ 149.
Maya Walton shot a 84-77 161 for the Chaps’ second-best score, followed by teammates Christine Campbell at 77-87 164, Robin Tan 85-91 176 and Claire Wooldridge 95-90 185.
Campbell, Wooldridge and Sims were on the Westlake team that took third at the 5A state tournament a season ago.
Westlake led after Day 1 of the tournament Wednesday with a 320 to Allen’s 322 and Lake Travis’ 323, with the final results winding up Lake Travis 639, Westlake 649 and Allen 649.

    Tournament was not played at Morris Williams Golf Course, it was played at Cottonwood Golf Course.
