Amidst a thoroughly tough field, the Westlake boys golf team fell short of making another run at a state title with a seventh-place finish at the Region 2-5A tournament Wednesday.
The Chaparrals, who haven’t missed the state tourney since 2006, fell behind on Day 1 and couldn’t overcome rough course and weather conditions in Waco.
The Woodlands won the region with a 303-299 602, Lake Travis shot a 307-312 619, and Kingwood was third at 312-309 621, with all three teams going to state. McKinney Boyd took fourth at 623, Humble Atascocita was fifth with a 625 and Westlake came in seventh at 631.
Matthew Perrine led Westlake with a 77-79 156, Tyler Gammill shot a 78-79 157, Stratton Nolen followed with a 80-78 158, Andy Germann came in at 79-81 160 and Garrett Lynch shot a 86-83 169.

Beating LT for district but not qualifying for State and then seeing LT make the cut was hard to fathom. The top players didn’t come through on day 3 & Chaps weren’t even close to making top 3.
