Name: Vicky Abney

Age and place of birth: 59, Fort Worth Texas.

Family: Paul Abney (husband) sells technology in the Cloud; Brooke Abney Totah, age 28, is manager at KPMG Austin; Alyson Abney Bell , age 27, is a consultant at Riveron Consulting in Dallas; and two great son-in-laws, Danny Totah and Jason Bell.

11-chat-abney-picEducation: Bachelor of business administration in business education, Baylor. MEd in instructional technology, Sam Houston State University.

Occupation: Teacher at Westlake High School. I teach a mentorship course, career exploration for juniors and seniors. Before this, I taught computer applications.

What is the latest project in which you are involved? Just organized a reunion weekend for Baylor Pi Phi’s from the years 1975-80) in Las Colinas. Sixty women at The Omni Mandalay reminisced; reconnected, toured Dallas Blooms at The Arboretum, and it was a blast!

Hobbies: Any party, adventure, or trip with family or friends. I love people.

What qualities in people draw you to be their friend? Sincerity, humor, and an interesting personality

Most significant or interesting job: Inspiring and influencing young people to pursue greatness.

Excluding family members, who influenced you most and why? My pastor at Austin Ridge Bible Church, Brad Thomas, because he is an excellent teacher and challenger.

What is your fondest childhood memory? Summers spent in South Arkansas with my beloved, smart grandparents and cousins.

If the world were silent for 20 seconds and all ears were turned to you, what would you say? I can’t imagine, but I would probably have something on my mind.

My most humorous moment was: Escaping the Baylor police when sorority sisters and I found ourselves in scrapes of mischief 40 years ago.

If you could sit down and ask questions of anyone (living or dead), who would it be and why? My mom, Marjorie Fielden, because I miss her face, our conversations and her love.

Most painful thing I’ve ever done: Had a partial root canal in S Korea (no antibiotic or deadening) when I took 14 WHS juniors for a two-week exchange trip. My tooth abscessed upon arrival. Joy.

Life’s most challenging endeavor is: Not having the power to shake things up without people thinking you are a lunatic.

If you were stranded on an uninhabited island, with no means of communication or escape, what is one thing that you would you like to have? Paul Abney, my husband. He is smart enough to figure out an escape.

Is there anything that you passed up on doing that you now regret? I think I would have enjoyed working for the FBI, CIA, or becoming a lawyer.

How would you like to be remembered? As someone who cared about them, and was respected by others.

That’s my sister!!!! An amazing woman that got all of our mother’s good traits! What a role model for youth and younger family members! She won’t be able to say, “I wish I had done that.” It would not surprise me to see her become a lawyer! Or anything else she desires.
