The Westlake boys golf team needs to rally to gain entrance into the state tournament after placing fifth during Day 1 of the Region 2-5A Tournament Monday at the Twin Rivers golf course in Waco.
The Chaparrals are currently four strokes out of third place, with the top three teams gaining entrance to state. The Woodlands is first at 303, Lake Travis second with a 307, McKinney Boyd sits in third at 310 and Kingwood shot a 312 on Day 1, with Westlake coming in at 314.
Matthew Perrine led Westlake on Day 1 with a 77, Tyler Gammill shot a 78 and Andy Germann came in at 79. Stratton Nolen shot an 80 and Garrett Lynch finished the day at 86.
The final round of play resumes at 8 a.m. Tuesday.
