A group of Westlake track and field athletes got the experience of one of the state’s – and nation’s – largest and most prestigious track competitions Friday and Saturday.

The 86th Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays drew in fans from around Texas and the country to see the top national college and Texas high school athletes compete in Austin.

Nicole Summersett had the best showing for the Chaparrals at the relays, finishing eighth overall in the pole vault.

Ben Jepson ran to second in his heat and 14th overall in the 1600-meter run.

Carly Grancolas took 22nd overall in the triple jump, Sydne Fowler placed 19th in the 100 hurdles and Jessica Ellis came in 25th overall in the 1600 run.

The Westlake girls 4×400 relay team of Kamri Ball, Amelia Hood, Fowler and Grandcolas took 29th overall, and the distance medley relay squad comprised of Rebekah Priddy, Ball, Remi Guyett and Ellis placed 21st overall.

The Westlake boys and girls track teams will host the disrict tournament April 10-11.
