The Rollingwood Neigborhood Association holds its annual Egg-Stravaganza at 9 a.m. Saturday, March 30, at Rollingwood Park, 403 Nixon Drive.
The Easter Bunny, a petting zoo and sack race are among activities planned for the event.
Emily Guthrie, a 2012 Westlake High School graduate now attending Franklin W. Olin College of Engineering, has been named one of the college’s first Clare Boothe Luce Research Scholars
This program is funded by a grant made to Olin College from the Henry Luce Foundation of New York City, through its Clare Boothe Luce Program. The awards provide stipends and other support to women students at Olin to pursue research with a faculty adviser.
Guthrie, 16, who will work with Assistant Professor Jose Oscar Mur-Miranda, PhD, on magnetic coupling coefficients for wireless power transfer.
Each award will provide a stipend for summer research and housing, plus an additional stipend and four course credits for research continued through the following academic year. Awardees also have access to additional funds to cover research, conference and travel costs. Seven of the grant recipients will begin their research this summer; one started in January, and will continue her work over the summer and during the fall semester.
Randy Phillips, the lead pastor of LifeAustin, formerly Promiseland West, which met at Westlake High School, will participate in a celebration of Good Friday March 29 at the Long Center at 4 p.m. and 6 p.m.
Eleven local Austin churches will come together for the services for the fourth straight year. Since the inception of this service in 2010, more than $75,000 has been raised for local Austin charities.
The Commons Ford Prairie Restoration Organization is holding a fundraiser from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. April 7 at Commons Ford Metropolitan Park, 614 N. Commons Ford Road.
Non-native invasive grasses are being removed and native grasses and wildflowers are being planted to replace them, and the fundraiser will help fund this effort. Efforts have already increased plant diversity and provided habitat for birds and wildlife. Nature walks for all ages will be held throughout the day, which will be led by some of the best known local experts in birding, plants, insects and geology. Other nature-themed nonprofit organizations will be on hand to talk about their groups and the environment. The event also features children’s activities, food and nature-themed merchandise booths.

The Austin Cactus and Succulent Society ‘Spring Show and Sale will be held On Saturday and Sunday, April 13-14, from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. at the Austin Area Garden Center at Zilker Botanical Garden in Zilker Park, 2220 Barton Springs Road).
Although the event is free and open to the general public, there is a paid admission to Zilker Botanical Garden ($2 adults, $1 children and seniors).
The show offers visitors a chance to see rare and beautiful cacti and succulent species from around the world. Vendors from Texas, Oklahoma and New Mexico will sell native and exotic cacti and succulents, as well as hand-made pottery at reasonable prices. There will be a daily silent auction and hourly plant raffle of rare and collectible cacti and succulents. Educational information, literature, and expert advice will be available.
The Austin Cactus and Succulent Society promotes the interest, study, propagation, conservation and public awareness of cacti and other succulents. ACSS hosts free public monthly meetings on the third Thursday at 7:30 p.m. at the Austin Area Garden Center at Zilker Botanical Garden. ACSS also maintains a library of books and journals on cacti and succulents, horticulture and conservation for its members and publishes a monthly newsletter.

Westlake High School Hyline dance team members present their annual extraveganza, Zenith, April 18-20, 7:30 p.m. nightly, at the Performing Arts Center, 4100 Westbank Drive. Public ticket sales begin April 11 in the WHS Chap Court from 11:30-1:15 p.m. and at the PAC from 4-6 p.m. through Thursday, April 18. In conjunction with the dance show, the Hyline is offering a Dance Clinic for all Eanes school district elementary students on April 13 from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Participants learn a dance that they then get to perform one night on stage during Zenith.
