With just one senior on the roster, the Tigers looked out of sorts against the scrappy Westlake team that overcame a crowded field to finish in third-place in District 15-5A.
Jordan Moore finished with 15 points and six blocks as the Tigers put away the rugged Chaparrals 54-33 Tuesday night in the bidistrict playoffs at Vandegrift High School.
The Chaps led 6-5 after one quarter as the Tigers turned the ball over and missed shot after shot.
Stony Point took the lead in the second quarter, 16-13, and never lost it. The Tigers dropped 23 in the third quarter on the Chaps and built a 20-point lead for much of the fourth quarter.
Westlake (10-18 overall) improved over the course of district play, and coach Allison Scacco said her team played hard and to the game plan against the taller and more athletic Tigers (29-5 overall)
“Our goal was to slow the ball down, use our possessions as long as we could to wear them out defensively,” Scacco said, “just keep it a game. What I told the girls was, ‘You keep it like this, it’s anyone’s game in the fourth quarter.’”
Kamri Ball scored seven points to lead Westlake, Jesse Turner scored five, Bailey Holley had four points and Christine Northington finished with three. The Chaps will graduate Northington, Ball, Hannah Feste, Thurston and Reagan Eppright.
