A two week period between the regional and state wrestling meets provided ample time for healing and preparation, but also for anticipation.
Senior Cooper Scott and sophomore Ryan Elswick are more than ready for their shot at the state tournament starting this Friday after the break between bouts.
“During this part of the year you just pray for no injury or illness,” coach Pat O’Harra said. “It’s a long two weeks, but they’ve stayed very focused.”
Now that pairings have been released, O’Harra is excited about both wrestlers’ prospects this weekend, with Scott gaining a good spot in his 220-pound bracket.
“Cooper is looking terrific and this is the best I’ve seen him at,” O’Harra said. “I really like his draw … It’s tough, but if he can win that (first) match, chances are he’ll be up against a kid he’s already beat before.”
Elswick had tough sledding no matter his draw, O’Harra said, but the time to recuperate has been good for the 106-pound competitor.
“He has a real tough bracket all the way through,” O’Harra said. “But it’s the state tournament, you just got to wrestle. That’s what it comes down to at this point in the year.”
